Is it just for Freemasons?
No - definitely not. No More Secrets is an initiative by Freemasonry to improve the health of all men and is aimed at the widest possible audience. The door has been opened as wide as possible so that many community groups can join with Freemasonry in promoting this campaign to as many men as possible.
Health awareness groups involved in the campaign include the Cancer Council, and the Heart Foundation. Freemasonry wants to work with as many service clubs and community groups as possible to spread the men’s health awareness message.
When will this event take place?
Events are taking place at community venues around the nation and will be organised by local Freemasons. Our local Lodges have been told that an essential element to the campaign is that they seek out groups such as service clubs, sporting clubs and churches so that the message of men’s health gets to the widest possible audience.
Why Men’s Health: ‘No More Secrets’?
Research shows that males in Western society are less likely than women to take an active role in maintaining their own health. In addition, men are known for being secretive about their health. Freemasonry is also considered secretive and so the title is simply a play on words which emphasises that, about Men’s Health and Freemasonry there should be No More Secrets.
What is the ‘secret’?
All health matters come down to making healthy decisions and having regular checkups by a qualified medical practitioner. That’s the message our speakers will seek to communicate through seminars organised and held by Lodges in their communities and the consequent distribution of information about men’s health issues including depression.
Special “Check up or check out” cards have been created and a special men’s health brochure explains the main issues for men in each age group. They can be downloaded from this site and will also be handed out at the seminars.
What health topics will be covered?
Each seminar stresses the need for men to get regular checkups and there is information about depression awareness and non-pharmaceutical treatment.
A model seminar presentation package is available with a pre-prepared PowerPoint presentation and script which any qualified speaker can present.
